First National Bank of Michigan Volunteers Support Big Backpack Build

September 26, 2025

In August, volunteers from First National Bank of Michigan got to work to help set up for the Big Backpack Build, an annual event organized by the Storehouse Community of Resources in Grand Rapids. Bank employees worked both morning and afternoon shifts, assisting with event setup, arranging tables, and preparing more than 10,000 backpacks to be filled and distributed to children in need throughout Kent County.

The Big Backpack Build is a large-scale effort that ensures students in the community have the supplies they need to start the school year with confidence. For families facing financial challenges, a fully stocked backpack can be a tremendous relief.

The Storehouse Community of Resources plays a vital role in this effort. By connecting overstock products from businesses, retailers, and wholesalers with nonprofits and schools, the organization ensures that essential items make their way to families experiencing poverty. Through this model, resources are maximized, waste is minimized, and local students benefit directly.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is an important part of who we are at First National Bank of Michigan,” said Market President Mike Hollander. “We are proud to partner with organizations like the Storehouse that create such meaningful impact.”
