Landscape Design Services was founded in 1968 by Larry J. Bakker on the lakeshore between Holland and Grand Haven. Larry was then working out of his house with one team member and a truck. Initially focused on landscape project design and installation, they eventually added lawn care, mowing, and snow services due to client demand. Now led by Larrys sons, Landscape Design Services works to make clients lives easier and better throughout West Michigan.

While still based at the same location, Landscape Design Services has grown over the years with 200 team members at peak season. Although the business has increased in size, the growth has been fueled by the one-to-one long-term relationships their designers and client service professionals have developed with their clients. The same is true for First National Bank of Michigan, the Bank has grown substantially in the 15 years since opening in 2006 and prides itself on building long-term relationships with clients. According to Bakker, “When the world shut down in early 2020, Dustin Hopkins was the first banking professional to reach out to us. At that time, we were not working with First National Bank of Michigan, but I knew Dustin from his time at our former community bank. I appreciate that Dustin checked in on us even though we were not doing business together. Subsequently, FNBM assisted us with our PPP loans and has become our banking partner.”
